ST. LOUIS - Motorists continue to adjust and find alternate routes around mid St. Louis County on day two of the Big Bend closure. Traffic flowed normal the first full day morning and evening rush and the second morning rush on most of the alternate routes.
"The most congested route on the second morning was Brentwood Boulevard," said MoDOT I-64 Project Director Lesley Hoffarth. "Brentwood was heavily congested from south of Manchester to Clayton Road with the most congested section from Eager Road to the University Club Tower signal. St. Louis County traffic engineers are reviewing the signals to make adjustments for traffic flow. Brentwood was heaviest from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m."
Another congested location was the ramps from I-170 to Eager. During the morning rush, the ramp from Eager to northbound I-170 is very heavy, which results in heavy traffic on I-170 from I-64 to Forest Park Parkway. During the evening rush, the exit from southbound I-170 to Eager was slightly busier than normal.
Overall the Rush Periods were as follows:
- Morning
- 6:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. on interstates.
- 7 a.m. - 9 a.m. on key alternate routes, including Brentwood, Manchester and McCausland/Skinker. The worst hour is 7:45 a.m. -8:45 a.m.
- Evening
- 3:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. on interstates
- 3:30 p.m. -6 p.m. on key alternate routes, including Brentwood, Manchester and McCausland/Skinker. The worst hour is 4:30 p.m. -5:30 p.m. on the alternate routes.
Big Bend over I-64 will remain closed until December 1. Motorists are encouraged to use Brentwood, Hanley to Eager to I-170 or McCausland/Skinker to cross I-64. Motorists can also adjust their time of travel away from the peak hour to reduce their delays.
