I-64 Regional Traffic – April Month Review

ST. LOUIS - Traffic continued to flow well during the month of April on the alternate routes during the east half closure of Interstate 64.  MoDOT, St. Louis City and St. Louis County engineers continue to monitor the region's interstates and major alternate roads.  Signal timings are continually monitored with minor adjustments made as needed.

Here are the major observations from the month of April 2009:

  • Overall, the interstate volumes during morning and evening rush periods are down 5 percent  or remain virtually unchanged compared to a year ago and are at or below 2007 numbers.
  • Crashes, incidents and weather are the biggest factors causing delays on the interstates.  There were more of these incidents in April compared to March.
  • The most congested hour for morning rush continues to be from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. for evening rush.

See the full April report on the web at http://www.modot.org/, click on St. Louis and local news releases.  MoDOT and its transportation partners will continue to monitor the roads and provide monthly updates on conditions.  For more information on the I-64 project and to stay updated on the construction schedule, visit http://www.thenewi64.org/
