I-64 Regional Traffic Briefing – Jan. 15

ST. LOUIS - With the bitter cold temperatures today, motorists are reminded of several resources to assist them in case of breakdowns on the highway.  MoDOT's Motorist Assist and St. Louis County I-64 Traffic Response are patrolling the interstates and major St. Louis County roads from 5 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.  Motorists can also call *55 on a cellular phone to request emergency assistance.

As the traffic has stabilized during morning and evening rush, the variances in traffic in many cases are caused by crashes or other incidents.  A state law that took effect 10 years ago requires vehicles involved in minor, non-injury crashes to move off the road.  The Missouri Department of Transportation is using the 10-year anniversary to remind motorists to "steer it and clear it" to ensure minor traffic crashes don't turn into major pileups.  By the end of this week, more than 30 new signs will be installed on St. Louis area interstates with the "steer it and clear it" message.

For the full travel time reports on the major alternate routes for Wednesday night and this morning, visit www.modot.org/stlouis. These reports will continue through this Friday and then will continue on a twice monthly reporting basis.

For more information on the I-64 project, visit www.thenewi64.org/ or call the project hotline at 314-524-9191.  For current traffic, go to www.gatewayguide.com/ or call 5-1-1.
