Tips for Improving Your Commute

ST. LOUIS - Traffic patterns with the east half closure are consistent each morning and evening rush.  MoDOT, St. Louis City and St. Louis County engineers offer the following suggestions for improving your commute.

Morning Rush

  • Leave earlier
  • Morning trouble spots include:
    • Eastbound I-64 from Clarkson to Mason from 7:15 to 8 a.m.
    • Southbound I-170 from Delmar to Forest Park Parkway from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m.
  • Use other exits including Page, Delmar or Ladue as alternates to the Parkway exit

Evening Rush

  • Leave earlier
  • Manchester continues to be the best alternate
  • 6 p.m. is the heaviest time on Page, Forest Park Parkway, Manchester and Brentwood
  • Interstates in general are heaviest from 5-6 p.m.

The biggest trouble spot for the City continues to be wrong way drivers in Dogtown.  Motorists are reminded that Oakland over I-64 is closed.  Motorists should take Clayton from Hampton to go west to get to the Clayton/Skinker intersection.

The biggest trouble spot for the County continues to be illegal left turns at the intersection of Hanley and Dale.  Motorists are reminded to use the road through the Meridian development to access Dale Avenue.
