I-64 Regional Traffic Briefing – Jan. 6 POST PM RUSH

ST. LOUIS - Traffic moved well during this evening's rush period, moving somewhat like what traffic did last evening.  Traffic on both the freeways and arterial routes moved well; there were some short-term backups due to crashes (not due to road conditions) on the interstates.

Traffic on Brentwood Boulevard was heavy, as was traffic on Big Bend. Hanley was still quite open.  As a reminder, traffic on Brentwood Boulevard has been backed up for the past couple mornings - this morning, primarily due to the wintry weather. Tomorrow morning, motorists are encouraged to use the Hanley to Eager to I-170 detour to get to downtown Clayton and other locations to the north.

Traffic patterns for the evening rush have somewhat stabilized. Traffic engineers from MoDOT, St. Louis City and St. Louis County are still evaluating traffic and making some final adjustments to signals.

"We can attribute a lot of the evening traffic stabilization to people taking our advice seriously," said Ed Hassinger, district engineer. "People need to continue flexing their commute times and using alternate routes - that will mean that traffic will continue to flow smoothly through the eastern half closure."
