I-64 Regional Traffic Briefing – Jan. 6 POST AM RUSH
Winter Weather Impacts Morning Traffic

ST. LOUIS - The early morning ice impacted roads and bridges around the region causing snarls for morning traffic.  Missouri Department of Transportation crews were out all night and pre-treated some roads and bridges in advance of the storm.  The cold temperatures and freezing rain still turned to ice on many highways around 3 a.m.  Crews will work 12-hour shifts until the roads are back to normal conditions.

Some of the closures due to ice included the following locations:  ramps at I-64 and I-170, I-64 at Route 141, I-64 at Clayton/Warson, I-270 at I-64, I-44 at Kingshighway, I-44 at Vandeventer, and I-270 at I-170.  Many of these locations were closed for up to one and one-half hours. Overall the morning rush lasted five hours, from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m.  MoDOT Motorist Assist crews worked significantly more incidents today with a total of 75 including 23 crashes.

Brentwood Boulevard had extra traffic this morning due to the closures at I-170 and I-64.  Hanley continues to have lots of room for extra cars.  Motorists are encouraged to use the Hanley to Eager to I-170 detour to get to downtown Clayton and other locations to the north.

Traffic engineers with MoDOT, the City and County continue to look at timing adjustments on Brentwood, McCausland at Southwest, and on Forest Park Parkway.
