I-64 Regional Traffic Briefing – Jan. 5 POST PM RUSH
ST. LOUIS - There were no significant traffic issues during this evening's rush period on the first full day of traffic after the holiday lull. Three weeks ago on December 15, the west half of I-64 reopened and the east half of I-64 from I-170 to Kingshighway closed for reconstruction. Motorists continue to adjust to the new traffic patterns on most of the region's roads.
Traffic on Brentwood, a big traffic issue this morning, was normal this afternoon. Primarily traffic appeared to move to Big Bend, where travel times went up about two minutes. Drivers should take I-170 to Eager and then use Hanley to head further south.
During tomorrow's commute, drivers are reminded that northbound Brentwood was very congested during this morning's rush period. County traffic engineers are still monitoring the signals along Brentwood; however, drivers are advised to take northbound Hanley to Eager and turn right onto I-170 instead of using Brentwood. People leaving Clayton heading north and west can take Hanley to Midland.
Motorists are reminded there are no left turns on northbound or southbound Hanley at Dale Avenue. Motorists should use the Meridian loop road from Eager to access eastbound Dale. There are also no u-turns allowed on Hanley Road. A drawing of the Hanley Road detour is available on the web at www.thenewi64.org click on construction zone.
Volumes were up on Forest Park Parkway are up about 60 to 70 percent over volumes prior to the switch.
