I-64 Regional Traffic Briefing – POST AM RUSH

ST. LOUIS - Traffic flow was normal today on the region's interstates the first full week of traffic after the holidays.  Three weeks ago on December 15, the west half of I-64 reopened and the east half of I-64 from I-170 to Kingshighway closed for reconstruction.  Motorists appear to be adjusting to the new traffic patterns on most of the region's roads.

The worst traffic problems appear to be traveling north toward Clayton.  Northbound Brentwood had severe delays from south of Manchester Road to Galleria Parkway this morning.  The travel time from I-44 to Clayton Road on Brentwood was more than doubled.  The worst traffic on Brentwood was from 8 to 9 a.m.

"Motorists trying to get to Clayton should consider using the new detour from Hanley to Eager to northbound I-170. Traffic was flowing well through this detour this morning," said St. Louis County Highways and Traffic Director Sheryl Hodges. "Once you are on northbound I-170, there are two exits into Clayton at Forest Park Parkway and Ladue."

Motorists are reminded there are no left turns on northbound or southbound Hanley at Dale Avenue.  Motorists should use the Meridian loop road from Eager to access eastbound Dale.  There are also no u-turns allowed on Hanley Road.  A drawing of the Hanley Road detour is available on the web at http://www.thenewi64.org/, click on construction zone.

The County will be evaluating Brentwood Boulevard to adjust signal timing to help with the traffic flow.  Motorists should also consider adjusting their travel times earlier or taking MetroLink to Clayton.

Forest Park Parkway continues to have increased traffic, but traffic was flowing well with little problems.  All other major streets in the county and city are reporting good traffic flow.
