ST. LOUIS - Traffic flow appeared to return to normal on the third day of the west half reopening and east half closure of Interstate 64. Since Sunday night, inclement weather conditions affected normal traffic patterns throughout the region, making it difficult to assess the impact of the I-64 switch.

"Wednesday morning traffic appeared to return to normal patterns as the St. Louis region experienced prior to the east end closure," said MoDOT Assistant District Engineer Tom Blair.

• Volumes are up but travel times are down on the main alternate routes such as Manchester, Page, Forest Park and Olive.

"Motorists are urged to avoid Wydown and Forsyth when accessing the Clayton central business district," said Charlie Thien, St. Louis County Highways and Traffic Operations Division Manager.

Overall travel times on interstates, including northbound Interstate 270 and eastbound and westbound Interstate 70 are higher than normal. Traffic still appears light on the newly opened five-mile stretch of I-64.

Metro officials note that there is still a lot of availability on MetroLink and Metro bus. There is open space available this week in the Brentwood parking garage for commuters.

Area law enforcement noted a few minor incidents this morning during peak travel times may have caused some delays but all were cleared quickly. Motorists should be alert when driving and look ahead for potential problems when driving. If possible, it is best to move over to the next available lane when approaching stalled motorists or incidents.
