Interstate 270 Corridor Study

The focus of the I-270 North Study will be the approximately 12-mile stretch of I-270 in North St. Louis County, between McDonnell Boulevard and Route 367.
Residents and commuter and commercial drivers have frequently expressed concerns about daily backups and congestion on roads connecting to 270, such as Lindbergh, New Florissant Road and Route 367, especially during evening rush hour.
Interchanges, such as the one at 270 and Lindbergh, no longer meet the increased traffic volumes in the area and must be improved. The entrance and exit ramps that require crossing oncoming traffic on Dunn Road are also noted as a major safety concern by motorists.
MoDOT engineers have also identified several aging bridges along the corridor that need of replacement within the next couple of years. Access and accommodations for mass transit, bike and pedestrian use are in need of upgrades.

Goals of the Study
The goals of the study are to identify the short and long term transportation needs on I-270 and the connecting roads. Once this information is gathered and analyzed, MoDOT will develop a plan to improve traffic flow, safety and efficiency along the route.

Residents and business owners encouraged to share their concerns about the corridor during this study period. MoDOT staff will visit with community leaders, churches, and civic organizations during this time to discuss the study and solicit input from the community.
In January 2012, a second public meeting will be held and MoDOT, along with community and planning partners, will present recommendations for improving the corridor.
Public Meeting Summary

MoDOT held a public meeting in April 2011 to
gather input from the community at large.
In April, more than 50 North St. Louis County residents and business owners attended the first public meeting and shared their traffic and safety concerns about I-270 with MoDOT staff. This meeting was one method of gathering input from the community regarding how the interstate works in this area. Nearly 120 individuals “attended” the virtual public meeting online.
A community advisory group composed of business owners, community leaders and elected officials in North County is also providing input during the study process.
