Older Drivers

In 2021, 208 people were killed and 845 were seriously injured in crashes involving a driver 65 years and older. People age 65 and older account for nearly 21 percent of the licensed drivers in Missouri.  Older driver involved fatalities and serious injuries have increased by nearly 20%.  Aging baby boomers and increases in life expectancy are likely to cause the proportion of the senior population in Missouri to continue to rise from about 21 percent today to more than 24 percent by 2025.
