MACON - The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced the upcoming schedule for the final two detonations of the Missouri River Bridge at Glasgow.
The contractor has scheduled the next two implosions to take place just after 7:30 a.m. on each of the following days:
-
Tuesday, October 14 - The span on the east side of the river (nearest to Glasgow).
-
Tuesday, October 21 - The center span over the navigational channel of the river.
The ferry service will be operational from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. each day to allow early commuters to cross the river prior to the implosion. Service will be discontinued at 7:30 a.m. for approximately one hour each day during the demolition.
For safety purposes, the boat ramp at Stump Island Park will be closed to boat traffic during both implosions. Additionally, the park will be completely closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic on October 14.
Suggested viewing for those interested is from the overlook area on Water Street. Limited viewing from Stump Island Park will be available on October 21. No viewing will be allowed in the area behind the MFA grain bins either day.
"Unfortunately, there just aren't any good viewing areas from the Glasgow side of the river for the implosion on October 14," said Dennis Brucks, District Construction Engineer. "The implosion on October 21 would be the better choice for anyone who would like to watch the final blast from Stump Island Park."
Flaggers will be in position both upstream and downstream of the bridge to hold river traffic a safe distance from the demolition.
