Route 15 Public Meeting in Mexico
Wednesday, September 14
4:30 - 6:30
Community Room (basement of Courthouse)
Project: Bridge replacement over Lick Creek on Route 15 just north of Mexico
The Audrain County Commission has asked MoDOT to move this project up from 2007 to 2006. To do this, MoDOT would need to close the road for up to four months.
The Commission has endorsed closing the road.
Why close the road to move the project up?
Reduced Time and Costs: One of the biggest advantages to closing a road for road construction is the saving of time and, subsequently, costs. By closing Route 15 for 4 months, taxpayers will save $300,000 which can be applied to other much needed work. The road closure will be inconvenient for some, but it will move delivery of the project up one year to the Summer of 2006, instead of 2007.
Detour Ahead: There are pros and cons to closing any road for a bridge replacement. Obviously, area residents will be concerned about the inconvenience of having to travel a different route. However, the detour on state routes is minimal traveling on Route 22 to Route E.
