The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission recently selected the contractor for the largest highway project in Missouri history and the first design-build project for MoDOT. Never Made It Campaign Encourages Teens to Buckle Up

The new Never Made It safety belt marketing campaign encourages teens to wear their safety belts, since teen safety belt usage rates are significantly lower than other Missourians. Summit Sets Stage For Changing State Safety Belt Law

A statewide safety belt summit held Nov. 14 in Columbia gathered together about 200 safety advocates from throughout the state to develop strategies for strengthening Missouri’s safety belt law. Federal statistics show that a primary law in Missouri would save 90 lives and prevent more than 1,000 serious injuries each year. It also would save Missourians about $231 million a year in medical costs associated with traffic crashes. New Club Recognizes Missourians Saved by Safety Belt

Have you been Saved By the Belt? That’s the question traffic safety advocates are asking Missourians across the state to promote a new Saved By the Belt Club to encourage buckling up in a motor vehicle. The Saved By the Belt Club, sponsored by the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety, is an elite organization that recognizes those who have been saved by their safety belt in a traffic crash and are willing to share their life-saving story with others. Drinking and Driving is a Losing Combination

The Missouri State Highway Patrol and 170 local law enforcement agencies recently participated in “You Drink & Drive.You Lose.” This campaign is an effort to increase awareness about the dangers of driving after drinking or using other drugs. MoDOT’s Highway Safety Division awarded grants to local law enforcement agencies to assist in this national effort. Law enforcement officers issued 1,374 speeding tickets, as well as 18 reckless driver tickets. Law enforcement officers also made 432 arrests for drunk driving and 22 felony arrests. 

Rahn Named Vice President of National Transportation Organization

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials has named MoDOT Director Pete Rahn as its vice president.The Mid-Missouri Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America also recently honored Rahn as the Communicator of the Year. Rahn

Cameras Document Hermann Bridge Project Progress

Check out the latest progress on the new Senator Christopher S. Bond Bridge on Route 19 at Hermann with photographs from cameras located near the project site. These cameras are timed to take photos approximately every 15 minutes. The $34 million project is a culmination of efforts from both federal and state organizations, as well as the Hermann Transportation Corporation, and is due for completion by Dec. 15, 2007.
