Counties Impacted
Callaway
Completed
Project Overview:

The project improved nine Callaway County bridges along U.S. Route 54. These nine bridges along Route 54 were rehabilitated or had the decks replaced. In addition to the bridge improvements, the project also included placing guard cable along sections of Route 54 from near the Missouri River Bridge in Jefferson City to I-70 in Kingdom City. The guardrail will increase safety and will help reduce crossover collisions along those areas of Route 54.

The Route 54 bridges completed in the project were:

  • Route 54 westbound over Middle River  (Bridge Rehabilitation)
  • Route 54 eastbound over Richland Creek  (Deck Replacement)
  • Route 54 westbound over Richland Creek  (Deck Replacement)
  • Route 54 eastbound over the KCR Railroad  (Deck Replacement)
  • Route 54 eastbound over Stinson Creek  (Bridge Rehabilitation)
  • Route 54 eastbound over Business Route 54  (Bridge Rehabilitation)
  • Route 54 eastbound over Interstate 70  (Bridge Rehabilitation)
  • Route 54 westbound over Interstate 70  (Bridge Rehabilitation)
  • Route 54 westbound over Hillers Creek  (Bridge Rehabilitation)

For bridges that are being rehabbed, the expectation is that motorists will get an additional 20-25 years of service before a deck replacement or replacement is necessary.

For the bridges that are having a deck replacement, the expectation is that motorists will get an additional 30-40 years of life before a full replacement is necessary.
