The Nodaway River Bridge on Route 46 in Nodaway County is scheduled to be replaced in 2022. The bridge, built in 1933, is being replaced in order to bring the bridge, a nearby culvert and the surrounding guardrail up to current standards.
This bridge is included in Gov. Mike Parson's $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.
Project Progress
MoDOT employees designed a project which will replace both the Nodaway River Bridge and update a culvert on Route 46 in Nodaway County, just west of Route 113.
The contract for the bridge replacement project was part of the May 2022 letting when contractors submitted competitive bids on the project. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded the $2,356,814.95 contract to Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. and gave the contractor an Aug. 1, 2022 notice to proceed date. This is the earliest date the contract can begin work.
The contractor closed the road to all traffic on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022. The road is closed at the bridge. Side streets will remain open.
A signed detour is in place to direct motorists around the closure via U.S. Route 59, U.S. Route 136 and Route 113. The contractor has 270 calendar days to complete the project.
The contractor plans to reopen the bridge in early June 2023.
By contract, all work on the Nodaway River Bridge must be complete no later July 1, 2023, or the contractor may be assessed liquidated damages.
